Why we made this documentary?
Autism Awareness Australia was founded by parents for parents who have children on the autism spectrum. For over 10 years we have delivered campaigns, resources, films and events all designed to support individuals with autism and the families who love them.
Our most recent project is no different. It was an absolute pleasure to once again collaborate with some of the amazing people who worked with us on our first documentary ‘What are you doing?’ We want to thank director Peter Cudlipp, interviewer Ian Rogerson and cinematographer, Martin McGrath who returned to work with us on our latest project and all of the wonderful crew who helped make this possible.
Sharing stories and experiences is how we learn and support one another – something we think mums have been doing pretty well. Over the years the voices of mums in our community have been amazingly loud and fierce. But it was time to share the stage, it was time to hear from the dads. Which is why we brought together 12 Australian dads of all different ages and vastly different backgrounds to tell their stories. Stories of success, of struggle and of family. Each one of them is so different, but with one thing in common – a child on the autism spectrum.
We are glad you have found us and we can’t wait for you to hear the often unheard stories of the men in our lives. Welcome to Dad…a film about autism and fatherhood.
